About this Stone
Set along emerald waters, this powerful cascade is one of the most impressive natural sights in Upper Austria. Unlike towering alpine waterfalls, the falls are wide and forceful, with the river squeezing through a rocky gorge before tumbling down in a rush of white water. Walking paths and viewing platforms bring you surprisingly close, letting you feel the raw energy of the current. It’s easy to imagine how this spot once challenged timber rafts traveling along the Traun River, where navigating the falls required skill, caution, and sometimes unloading cargo altogether.
