About this Stone
A 16th-century tower house set beautifully along the shores of Galway Bay, this castle carries layers of history and legend. It was once linked to the legendary King Guaire, celebrated for his generosity, and the stone walls have hosted some of Ireland’s most notable literary figures. During the Irish Literary Revival, poets gathered here for medieval banquets, drawn by the castle’s romantic setting and storied past. The surrounding landscape is quintessentially Irish—rugged coastline, green slopes, and the kind of timeless atmosphere that makes this spot both a historical treasure and a natural gathering place.
