About this Stone
You can’t overlook this fortress as you waddle around the lake. It is perched atop a steep cliff overlooking the water, a majestic medieval structure that offers stunning views of the lake, the island, and the surrounding Julian Alps. Dating back to the 11th century, it is the oldest castle in the country, showcasing a rich history through its well-preserved Romanesque tower, museum exhibits, and charming chapel adorned with frescoes. An interesting feature is the wine cellar, where visitors can bottle wine using traditional methods, adding a unique interactive experience. The approach is steep with plenty of stairs, but once at the top, the vistas make the climb worthwhile. The penguin stone is settled into the wall, waiting to be discovered among the medieval stones.
