About this Stone
This subterranean marvel is a 24.34 km long karst cave system carved by the Pivka River, making it the country’s second-longest cave system and one of its top tourist destinations. Renowned for its stunning formations of stalactites and stalagmites, the cave has attracted visitors for over 200 years. A truly unique feature is its electric train system, which allows you to explore the vast underground network in comfort—the only cave in the world to offer such an attraction. The cave is also home to the olm, or “human fish,” an extraordinary blind amphibian that can live up to 100 years and survive without food for up to a decade. This fascinating creature thrives in the darkness, adding to the cave’s scientific and natural allure.
