About this Stone
The largest reservoir in Slovakia, this expansive water body was created in 1988 by damming the Cirocha River and now serves as a crucial drinking water source for the eastern regions. Covering approximately 311 hectares, the reservoir is ringed by protected forested landscapes that shelter rich biodiversity, including rare and endangered species. The area’s ecological significance extends beyond water supply—it’s a pristine natural environment that draws visitors seeking both recreation and the chance to experience the country’s unspoiled wilderness. A lookout tower near the shore offers sweeping views across the water, providing an ideal vantage point to take in the surrounding landscape.
