About this Stone
This village perches at 85 meters above sea level on the northwestern part of the island, commanding views over an almost three-kilometer-long bay that stretches across the water. What makes it remarkable is its depth of human presence — the settlement has existed for more than 10,000 years, making it one of the oldest towns on the island. That prehistoric continuity speaks to something about the place itself: the vantage point, the shelter, the access to water all made it worth staying, worth returning to, across millennia. Today it serves as an important center for Glagolitic culture and heritage, preserving a distinct thread of regional identity.
