About this Stone
A masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture with a square base approximately 15 meters on each side, this bell tower rises 84.7 meters above the ground, crowned with elegant horizontal reinforcements. A stairway of 414 steps winds through three superimposed loggias featuring refined pairs of mullioned windows, culminating at the highest level where large three-mullioned windows frame splendid panoramic views across the city. The climb is steep, but the vistas from the summit make every step worthwhile. This particular stone has an amusing origin story—it was placed here almost by accident when contributors were testing different locations and the stone became wedged in its final resting spot, where it has remained ever since.
