#282 Enniberg

📍 Enniberg, Viðareiði, Faroe Islands

About this Stone

This dramatic sea cliff on the northern tip of the island rises 754 meters sheer above the North Atlantic, making it one of Europe’s highest coastal cliffs. The sheer rock faces are a haven for seabirds—puffins, guillemots, and fulmars nest here in abundance, drawing birdwatchers from across the region. For centuries, sailors navigating these notoriously treacherous northern waters have used the cliff as a landmark. Local folklore runs deep here too: in Viking times, the cliffs were believed to harbor mysterious spirits, and locals once avoided approaching them entirely out of superstition. Despite—or perhaps because of—its wild reputation, the spot remains one of the most striking natural monuments in the archipelago.
