About this Stone
This iconic lighthouse stands tall above the Outer Banks with its striking red brick exterior, one of the most recognizable lighthouses in the United States. Built in 1875, it is one of the few American lighthouses that was never painted, its natural brickwork helping sailors distinguish it from others along the coast. Climb the 220 steps to the top, and you are rewarded with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Currituck Sound, and the surrounding maritime forests.
