About this Stone
This neo-Gothic chapel, built in 1909, stands in the Starý háj forest park and carries a fascinating history. A stone cross displayed here dates to 1869 and was discovered after the great flood of 1809 that reshaped the surrounding area. The chapel was constructed by the firm of Ludwig Gratzl and consecrated on September 26, 1909, with a memorial plaque inside honoring the benefactors and committee members who made it possible. What makes this spot particularly striking is its setting—a serene spiritual sanctuary nestled in the heart of Slovakia’s largest housing estate, offering a quiet refuge from the urban bustle that surrounds it. The interplay between the chapel’s historical calm and the modern residential landscape creates an intriguing contrast that draws many visitors to explore both the building and the forest park.
