About this Stone
This historic hill rises right in the heart of the city, offering sweeping views over Santiago with the Andes often visible on clear days. Standing about 69 meters above the surrounding streets, it was originally known as Huelén Hill before the Spanish claimed it as a strategic lookout in the 16th century. Today, the elegant Castillo Hidalgo is tucked into its terraces, and stone staircases, fountains, and leafy paths wind through the area, making it a lovely retreat from the urban pace. An adventurer passing through the region left a penguin stone hidden here, adding a tiny secret to one of Santiago’s most iconic viewpoints.
