#351 Plzeň Zoo

📍 Plzeň Zoo, Pilsen, Czechia

About this Stone

This zoological garden, opened in 1926, stands as one of the country’s most cherished wildlife institutions. The space blends traditional zoo exhibits with a botanical park, creating an immersive natural atmosphere as you wander its grounds. Home to over 1,200 species from across the globe—big cats, giraffes, reptiles, and countless others—the zoo has earned international recognition for its conservation work. It holds particular pride in its breeding programs for critically endangered species, most notably the Przewalski’s horse, which has been successfully reintroduced to the wild through these efforts. A remarkable historical achievement: this was the first zoo in the world to breed Komodo dragons in captivity, a milestone in animal conservation history. Now the spot harbors a quieter treasure, tucked beneath the dinosaur skeleton near the entrance.
