About this Stone
Often simply called ‘Kaivari’ by locals, this park sits in the southern part of Helsinki and ranks among the city’s oldest and most prominent green spaces. It grew around a 19th-century spa and health resort that once drew Russian aristocrats and wealthy visitors seeking therapeutic waters. Today, the setting retains its charm—perched by the sea, it commands stunning views across the Baltic. The grounds are dotted with monuments, statues, and viewpoints that reward a leisurely stroll. The park is particularly beloved during Vappu, the May Day celebration, when thousands gather to mark spring’s arrival with traditional festivity and joy.
