About this Stone
This striking castle rises from a rocky island in the middle of a lake, its red façade reflected in the water like a scene from a fairy tale. Originally built as a Gothic fortress in the 14th century, it was rebuilt and reimagined during the Renaissance in the 16th century, when the red plaster that gives it its distinctive character was added. Over the centuries, noble families shaped its history, leaving behind richly furnished interiors, a charming chapel, and a romantic stone bridge that connects the castle to the mainland. Today it draws visitors for weddings, boating, and film productions, celebrated for its storybook setting and peaceful lakeside atmosphere. A wander around the grounds reveals different vantage points of this picturesque structure, and along the way, there are quiet spots tucked between stone walls—the sort of places where a small penguin stone might find a home.
