📍 Kronburg Castle, Zams, Austria

About this Stone

This charming hamlet in the serene Tyrolean Alps is renowned for its idyllic scenery, traditional alpine architecture, and rich cultural heritage. It’s a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering activities such as hiking, skiing, and mountain biking in the surrounding pristine landscapes. The area is home to a historic castle, a treasured landmark that provides a glimpse into the region’s medieval past. Built in the 14th century, it served as a defensive stronghold and a symbol of authority in the Upper Inn Valley. Its strategic location provided commanding views of the surrounding landscape, making it an ideal spot for monitoring and protecting the area from invaders. Over the centuries, the castle became closely linked to a nearby pilgrimage church and monastery. In 1504, it was partially destroyed during a siege in the Bavarian War of Succession but was later rebuilt.
