About this Stone
On the Isle of Skye’s westernmost edge, this rugged headland offers jaw-dropping views of the Atlantic Ocean and leads to a lighthouse that has stood watch since 1909. Still operational but automated since 1990, the lighthouse was designed by David Alan Stevenson, a member of the famous Stevenson family of lighthouse engineers and a cousin of Treasure Island author Robert Louis Stevenson. The short but steep hike down rewards you with cinematic views, especially at sunset when the cliffs glow gold. Keep your eyes peeled—whales, dolphins, and basking sharks are sometimes spotted off the coast, making it a favorite not just for photographers but for wildlife lovers too.
