About this Stone
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its five cave shrines filled with ancient murals and over 150 Buddha statues, some dating back more than 2,000 years. The largest reclining Buddha stretches an impressive 14 meters in length. The temple complex represents one of Sri Lanka’s most spiritual and historic locations, layered with centuries of art, devotion, and storytelling. A small pond within the grounds provides a quiet, contemplative setting—a fitting sanctuary for a tiny stone guardian watching over this sacred space.
