#487 North Stradbroke Island

📍 North Stradbroke Island, Brisbane, Australia

About this Stone

This sand island off the southeast Queensland coast is one of the largest in the world, second only to Fraser Island. Known as Minjerribah to the Quandamooka people—the Traditional Owners whose rich cultural heritage defines the place—it’s a destination of striking natural beauty. Pristine beaches, freshwater lakes like the crystal-clear Blue Lake, and lush bushland draw visitors year-round. The waters here host migrating whales, and kangaroos roam wild across the landscape. The stone rests in a spot with gorgeous beach views, tucked behind a palm leaf, where the local wildlife now stands as its guardians. The beach itself tells a story of natural change; a cyclone swept through not long before the stone arrived, reshaping the shoreline entirely, yet the island’s beauty remained undimmed.
