About this Stone
A magnificent example of Gothic architecture in southwestern France, this cathedral stands as the city’s main Roman Catholic church and seat of the Archbishop. Its soaring towers, intricate stone carvings, and vast nave continue to attract visitors and worshippers alike. The cathedral carries remarkable historical weight—a young Eleanor of Aquitaine was married here in 1137 to the future King Louis VII of France, just months before he ascended the throne. The stone rests within the walls of the opposite building, offering a luxurious view of the cathedral itself.
