About this Stone
This peaceful green space carries centuries of Scottish history within its bounds. Once an island in the River Tay, it was gifted to the city by King Robert II in 1374. During the 1600s, Oliver Cromwell constructed a citadel here using stones salvaged from a nearby chapel—a tangible reminder of Scotland’s turbulent past. Today, the park balances heritage with modern community life, offering sports fields, a skate park, and a children’s play area alongside a statue of Sir Walter Scott. The grounds host the Perth Highland Games and other local events, making it a living center where nature, history, and Scottish tradition converge. The stone was nestled in a tree here, offering views that capture why this place continues to draw both locals and visitors.
