About this Stone
One of South Korea’s most scenic seaside temples, this spiritual site was built in 1376 during the Goryeo Dynasty and is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, believed to bring blessings through the sea breeze. It stands among only a handful of temples in the country positioned right on the coast, making it a destination for thousands who come to witness spectacular sunrise views over the water. The stone dragon statue here serves as a guardian figure, a symbol of protection watching over the waves. Beneath this ancient sentinel rests a small golden penguin stone, tucked safely under the dragon’s watchful gaze, protected by centuries of spiritual significance and the eternal rhythm of the ocean.
