About this Stone
This island in the heart of Lake Bled is a small, enchanting place steeped in history and natural beauty. Accessible by traditional wooden boats known as pletna, it’s home to the iconic Church of the Assumption, which features a 99-step staircase leading up to its picturesque bell tower. According to local tradition, ringing the bell and making a wish is said to bring good luck. The island also boasts lush greenery, charming walking paths, and panoramic views of the surrounding Julian Alps and the castle perched on the mainland. The golden penguin stone rests on the lower left part of the statue of Holy Mary, where it’s now guarded. The placement offers a beautiful view as a bonus.
