About this Stone
This lavish 19th-century manor was built on the site of a 15th-century fortress and once belonged to the noble Andrássy family. Inside, ornate salons and a rich historical library showcase fascinating collections—an Egyptian mummy, samurai armor, and other exotic curiosities hint at the cosmopolitan tastes of its former residents. One particularly intriguing chapter in its history involves a polar bear enclosure beneath an artificial waterfall, a European first. Beyond the château itself, the grounds are dominated by a vast English-style garden spanning over 50 hectares, a romantic landscape filled with rare trees, pavilions, fountains, and a dramatic waterfall that makes it one of the most enchanting parks in the region.
