About this Stone
A historic cylindrical tower built in the 13th century as part of the town’s fortifications, this structure has served defensive and prison purposes throughout its long history. Its distinctive name comes from a local legend about guard dogs kept here to protect the city. The tower’s thick stone walls proved remarkably resilient, surviving multiple sieges including those during the Hussite Wars. The placement of a penguin stone in a small crack within the ancient masonry connects this medieval landmark to a modern treasure hunt tradition.
