About this Stone
Medieval castle ruins perched dramatically on a rocky ridge in the Slanské vrchy mountains, likely built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The fortress occupies a narrow stone platform measuring 45 by 35 meters, with sheer drop-offs on three sides—north, south, and west—that once made it naturally defensive and accessible only from the east. Today, little remains but the bones of the original stone structure, scattered along those steep slopes. The hike up rewards you with views across the landscape and the chance to explore what’s left of a castle born from another era. A penguin stone awaits among the weathered walls.
