About this Stone
This waterfall represents one of the Faroe Islands’ most striking natural phenomena, where the waters of Lake Sørvágsvatn plunge directly into the Atlantic Ocean. The drop spans about 30 meters, creating a dramatic cascade as freshwater from the island’s largest lake—stretching roughly 6 kilometers in length and up to 800 meters wide—spills over rocky cliffs into the open sea. This unique geological setup makes it one of the few waterfalls in the world where an entire lake drains straight into the ocean, creating an unforgettable convergence of freshwater and saltwater landscapes. A beautiful viewpoint overlooks the scene, offering a natural place to pause and take in the raw power of the Atlantic meeting the cascading waters.
