About this Stone
This is one of the few remaining unification villages located within the Civilian Control Zone near the Korean Demilitarized Zone. Surrounded by barbed wire and guarded checkpoints, it’s a peaceful farming community that exists in one of the most heavily protected borders in the world. Despite the tension that once defined this area, the village stands as a quiet symbol of hope, home to residents who live under strict rules but carry an enduring belief in a future where the two Koreas might reunite. An interesting fact: farmers here receive tax exemptions and are required to spend a minimum number of nights per year in the village as part of their special residency privileges. Among its rice fields and watchtowers, a penguin stone now rests—a small symbol of peace and togetherness in this divided land.
