About this Stone
This village in the Prešov Region has deep roots in Central European history. German settlers first established the community in 1315, and another wave of Silesian German families arrived in 1787, shaping its cultural identity. The local German-speaking tradition persisted through World War II, though the post-war communist period brought harsh restrictions—speaking German was officially outlawed from 1946 until the regime’s end. Today, the village sits surrounded by beautiful rolling hills that offer both natural beauty and a sense of connection to this layered past. The penguin stone awaits on one of these hillsides, near a distinctive cross at the summit.
