About this Stone
This fortress island holds centuries of Stockholm’s defensive history. Originally built in the 1660s to protect the city, it was reconstructed in 1848 after an explosion destroyed the earlier structure in 1845. Though designed for military purposes, it saw limited action and primarily served as a symbolic fortification and training ground.
