About this Stone
This fortress rises dramatically on a 37-meter-high cliff just outside the old town walls, its commanding position guarding the entrance to the sea. Built in just three months according to legend—a feat undertaken to prevent Venetian control of the city—it became one of the key defensive strongholds of the Republic of Ragusa. The thick triangular walls were engineered to withstand heavy cannon fire from both sea and land, a testament to medieval military architecture. In modern times, the fortress has found a second life as a cultural venue and filming location for major productions, drawing visitors from around the world who come to experience both its historical significance and cinematic fame.
