About this Stone
In the lower part of the city, just outside the Venetian walls, stands this historic medieval tower that once formed part of the defensive system. Built in the 14th century, it originally served as a fortified structure protecting the eastern approach. The name is believed to come from gallows, as this area was once associated with public executions outside the main city gates. Today, the tower stands quietly among modern streets, a reminder of the city’s layered past and its transformation from fortified stronghold to urban landmark.
