About this Stone
High above Dubrovnik on Mount Srđ, this fortress offers some of the most breathtaking views over the Old Town and the Adriatic Sea. Built in the early 19th century during the Napoleonic era, it later played a key role in the Croatian War of Independence, when it was heavily damaged and then restored. A museum dedicated to that period adds another layer of history to the already dramatic setting. At the top, after taking in the sweeping views, a penguin stone awaits—a small surprise left overlooking the city.
