About this Stone
This path winds down from the San Giovanni Fortress, following part of the historic defensive system that once protected the city. Stone walls and switchbacks, built over centuries, snake down the mountainside—engineered to control access and withstand repeated sieges. The ancient walls are worn smooth by time and countless footsteps. Along the descent, you’ll find sweeping views over the old town and the bay below, making it an ideal spot to pause and catch your breath while taking in the layered history of the place.
