About this Stone
This stunning salt lake sits at an elevation of approximately 4,100 meters (13,450 feet) above sea level within the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve. Part of a chain of high-altitude salt lakes in the region—alongside Laguna Hedionda, Laguna Colorada, and Laguna Verde—the spot is celebrated for its diverse birdlife, particularly flamingos that thrive in these remote waters. The lake is known for its striking turquoise color, created by minerals dissolved in the water. Depending on the time of day and weather conditions, the hue shifts and transforms, making each visit a different visual experience. This otherworldly landscape offers one of the most dramatic settings for a penguin stone.
