This hilltop rises approximately 235 meters above the city, making it one of Budapest's highest points. The hill carries deep historical weight — it's named after Saint Gerard, a missionary martyred here in 1046 when he was thrown into the Danube by pagans. Centuries later, the Habsburgs crowned the summit with the Citadella, a fortress completed in 1851 following the suppression of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. The walk to the top rewards visitors with sweeping panoramic views across the city, the river below, and the sprawling Pest side beyond. It's a place where history, geography, and urban landscape converge into something genuinely memorable.
