This 12th-century church stands as the oldest surviving place of worship still in active use throughout the Faroe Islands. Dedicated to Norway's patron saint, it has anchored spiritual and cultural life here for nearly nine centuries, once serving as the seat of the Faroese bishop and a vital connection between the islands and the broader Christian world of the Middle Ages. The whitewashed walls and spare interior embody a timeless Faroese character, while the churchyard itself commands sweeping views across the sea toward the surrounding islands. The historic stone wall encircling the grounds carries centuries of island history within it.
