Near Simon's Town, this beach is one of the very few places in the world where you can walk just a few meters away from wild African penguins in their natural habitat. The spot is famous for its giant, round granite boulders, which are over 500 million years old and create sheltered coves where penguins nest, swim, and waddle around, completely unbothered by visitors on the wooden boardwalks. An interesting chapter in the area's history is that the penguin colony only established itself here in 1982 with just two breeding pairs, and has since grown to thousands of birds. Today it remains one of the most accessible places on earth to observe these remarkable creatures in their element.
