#1045 Alf Skua Lightship Lantern
Alf Skua Lightship Lantern, Arklow, Ireland
About this stone
A fascinating maritime relic that once guided ships safely along the Irish coast, this lightship lantern represents a vital chapter in nautical history. Lightships like this were floating lighthouses, stationed in waters where building a permanent lighthouse was impossible, and served as essential navigation aids for vessels navigating treacherous coastal waters. The lantern's presence speaks to the ingenuity and determination required to maintain safe passage along Ireland's shores, making it a unique destination that blends maritime heritage with a touch of modern adventure.
