#114 Castle Of The Livonian Order

Castle Of The Livonian Order, Sigulda, 🇱🇻 Latvia

About this Stone

A medieval fortress dating back to 1207, originally built as a castellum-type stronghold and later transformed into a convent-like residence for the Land Marshal of the Livonian Order until 1432. Perched on the edge of the Gauja Valley, the castle ruins sprawl across a vast area with plenty to explore. The remnants of the tower make for a particularly atmospheric spot, offering both historical intrigue and scenic surroundings that draw visitors on day trips through the region.
