About this stone

This stunning 30-meter cascade plunges from Loch na Gainmhich into a dramatic gorge, creating one of the Scottish Highlands' most breathtaking natural spectacles. Often called the Wailing Widow Falls, the waterfall earned its nickname for its resemblance to a weeping eye when viewed from above. Despite its beauty and prominent location along the NC500 route, the spot remains refreshingly quiet and undiscovered by most visitors—a genuine hidden gem. A short trail from the roadside leads to the falls, rewarding hikers and photographers with wild, peaceful views of the remote landscape. The gorge setting and powerful water create an atmosphere that feels far removed from the everyday world.
