Hidden in Hiroshima, this penguin stone carries a story connected to one of Japan’s most historically significant cities. Hiroshima is internationally known as the first city to experience an atomic bombing on 6 August 1945, and today it is a powerful symbol of peace and remembrance. One of its best-known landmarks, the Atomic Bomb Dome, survived the blast despite being close to the hypocentre and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An interesting fact: Hiroshima is also famous for momiji manju, a maple-leaf-shaped sweet filled with red bean paste.
