#881 Zojo-ji Temple

Zojo-ji Temple, Tokyo, Japan

About this stone

At Zōjō-ji Temple, one of Tokyo’s most historic Buddhist temples, we stood where centuries of Japanese history meet the modern city. Founded in 1393 and closely connected to the Tokugawa shoguns, the temple is home to the tombs of six Tokugawa rulers. And right behind its traditional architecture rises the unmistakable Tokyo Tower, creating one of Tokyo’s best examples of old meeting new. Of course, we couldn’t leave without hiding a penguin stone.
