High above the historic heart of the city, these impressive cannons sit along the mighty Venetian walls that encircle the old town. They once formed part of the defensive system built during the Republic of Venice's rule, protecting the area from potential invasions. Today, they offer one of the most photogenic viewpoints over the rooftops, the plains of Lombardy, and even the distant Alps on a clear day. A lesser-known fact is that although the Venetian walls were completed in the 16th century, they were never actually used in battle, meaning the historic center was preserved almost untouched for centuries. The spot now holds a playful secret, quietly waddling into history.
