This Baroque masterpiece crowns a hill overlooking the Adriatic Sea, completed in 1736 and dedicated to the city's patron saint, whose remains rest in a sarcophagus within. The interior dazzles with elaborate altars and frescoes, while the bell tower—modeled after the iconic one in Venice's St. Mark's Basilica—rewards climbers with panoramic views of the town and its stunning coastline. The church's presence is inseparable from Rovinj's fascinating history: the town was once an island until 1763, when the channel between it and the mainland was filled in, transforming it into a peninsula and catalyzing its development into the charming, historic destination it remains today. The stone was placed in a wall slit near the church, a fitting spot in one of the Adriatic's most picturesque corners.
