Tento pôsobivý neskorogotický kostol stojí na brehu rieky Limmat a jeho názov pripomína, že kedysi vznikol na malom ostrove úplne obklopenom vodou. Dnes ho s pevninou spájajú mosty a chodníky, vďaka čomu sa včleňuje do štruktúry starého mesta. Toto miesto má hlboký historický význam – označuje miesto, kde podľa tradície Rimania popravili patrónov Zürichu, Félixa a Regulu. Legenda hovorí, že po sťatí hláv ich svätci vzali a odkráčali do kopca na miesto svojho odpočinku, ktoré dnes pripomína neďaleký Grossmünster.
