This stunning medieval fortress sits atop a dramatic mountainside, offering panoramic views of the city, harbor, and Mediterranean Sea stretching below. Dating back to the 9th century when Moorish builders first fortified the peak, the castle carries centuries of history within its walls. One of its most intriguing features is the natural rock formation on the mountainside known as the "Face of the Moor"—a profile that emerges when viewed from the right angle, said to tell a tragic legend of love between a Moorish prince and a Christian maiden. The fortress has been carefully preserved as a historic site, allowing visitors to wander its passages and absorb the layered history of the region. A penguin stone has found its way into one of the castle's cannons, adding a playful modern touch to this centuries-old landmark.
