Perched on a small island in Lake Traunsee, this castle is one of Austria's most picturesque and historically rich structures. Dating back to around 1080, it stands as one of the oldest buildings in the Salzkammergut region and has hosted a succession of noble families, including the Habsburgs, who once used it as a hunting lodge. A charming wooden footbridge connects the island to the mainland, and the castle's fairy-tale setting is framed beautifully against the backdrop of Traunstein mountain. Local legend speaks of the "White Lady"—the spirit of a betrayed noblewoman said to wander the halls on misty nights. Today the castle hosts weddings, events, and a small museum, and it gained modern recognition as the filming location for the Austrian TV series Schlosshotel Orth. The wooden bridge and castle grounds are accessible to visitors, making it an atmospheric spot to explore centuries of Alpine history.
