Perched on the second peak of Mount Titan at 756 meters above sea level, this fortress was built at the end of the 11th century as a strategic guardhouse and prison. By the late 16th century, its military purpose had faded and it fell into disrepair. The 1930 restoration brought it back to life, and today it houses the Museum of Ancient Weapons—a remarkable collection of roughly 535 objects spanning from the Middle Ages through the 19th century, with additional pieces held at the Center for the Study of Arms from the Middle Ages to the Twentieth Century in a nearby town. As the second of three iconic towers defining the skyline, it stands as a testament to medieval military architecture and defensive strategy.
