About this Stone

Hyde Park Barracks is one of Australia's most important historic sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1819 by convict architect Francis Greenway, it was designed to house up to 600 male convicts. It has served as a convict barracks, immigration depot for thousands of women arriving in Australia, and later as government offices.
