About this Stone
Macquarie Place Park may be small, but it holds an important place in Sydney’s history. Established in the early days of colonial Sydney, the park contains the Obelisk of Distances, designed by convict architect Francis Greenway and erected in 1818. This monument marked the point from which road distances from Sydney were officially measured, making this little green space a historic starting point for journeys across New South Wales. We hid a Penguin Stone in Macquarie Place Park, right in the heart of historic Sydney.
